    Humanitarian Affairs Internship at United Nations in Switzerland

    The United Nations Mine Action Service calls application for Humanitarian Affairs Internship in UN Switzerland. The UNMAS/OROLSI/DPO Geneva internship is for six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

    Responsibilities

    Duties of the intern include, but are not limited to:

    • Supports the office’s engagement with the humanitarian community, including in its role as Global Coordinator of the Mine Action Area of Responsibility (MA AoR) within the Global Protection Cluster.
    • Assists in the organization of meetings, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc. with other Agencies, Funds and Programmes as well as partners on specific humanitarian-related issues.
    • Conducts research and drafts official documents related to priorities of UNMAS.
    • Researches analyze and presents information gathered from diverse sources on assigned topics/issues.
    • Contributes to the preparation of various written documents, e.g. drafts sections of studies, background papers, etc.
    • Attends conferences and meetings of interest to UNMAS, and provides verbal and written briefing notes to colleagues.
    • Supports the work of the office on advocacy and outreach.
    • Performs other duties as requested by the supervisor.

    Education

    To qualify for this Humanitarian Affairs Internship at UN, the following conditions must be met one of the following requirements:

    • B enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
    • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.

    Other Requirements

    • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
    • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is necessary. Knowledge of French is desirable. In addition to that, knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

    Special Notice 

    A completed online application (Cover Note and Personal History Profile) is necessary for Humanitarian Affairs Internship at the United Nations in Switzerland. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. The Cover Note must include:

    • Title of degree you are currently pursuing – Graduation date (when you will be graduating from the programme)
